Role and Unit Details Surgical Care Unit is a 23-hour post-operative observation unit (12 beds). You will be responsible for recovery care of post-surgical patients transferred from the PACU, including initial and ongoing assessment, administration of medications, initiation of indicated therapies (e.g., physical therapy), wound care, activities of daily living (ADL) support, and related duties. Short Stay Unit is a 23-hour post-operative observation unit (9 beds). You will be responsible for recovery care of post-surgical patients transferred from the PACU, including initial and ongoing assessment, administration of medications, initiation of indicated therapies (e.g., physical therapy), wound care, ADL care, and related duties. Preferred Qualifications At least one year of experience in general surgery/medical patient care. Experience with intermediate and step-down patients or general medicine/surgery. Shift Requirements Three 12-hour shifts 7:00am–7:30pm (week one of a two-week schedule) and one 11:00am–7:30pm plus one 7:00am–7:30pm shift; weekends and holidays per unit requirements. Job Requirements Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and policies. Individualize the plan of care based on assessment of baseline needs and response to care. Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources. Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and learners. Participate in identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in improvement activities. Education Graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in a BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years. Experience 1 year of clinical nursing practice. Licenses, Certifications Current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. BLS certification.
