Speech Language Pathologist - Full Time and Part Time This is a professional position involving responsibility for the evaluation of the communication and swallowing functions and disabilities of clients in a health care facility and for providing treatment to restore or improve these deficits by utilizing a team of specialists concerned with the individual and the disorder. The work is performed upon a written order or referral of a physician who provides medical direction. This position reports directly to the Director of Rehabilitation. Supervision of others may be a function of this position. Does related work as required. *The term “client” should be changed to “resident” when the position is used in health-related facilities. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (illustrative only) Provides speech therapy treatment services in accordance with accepted professional standards; Evaluates the degree of function and disability of clients unless contraindicated by professional judgment or by the attending physician; Plans and develops remedial programs designed to restore or improve safe and effective swallowing and communication efficiency; Consults with senior medical management on subjects of a professional medical nature; Integrates treatment plans into total care plans in consultation with clients, physicians and other personnel providing client care; Participates in client care review conferences when appropriate; Provides augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders; Coordinates and collaborates with other professionals for diagnostic swallowing procedures (MBSS, FEES) as ordered by physician; Initiates and attends conferences with the administrator, physicians, and other facility staff to interpret the functions of the speech therapy service and its relationship with other client care services; Develops or assists in the development of speech therapy policies and procedures; Completes accurate and timely billing records and supporting clinical documentation including all evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes, treatment encounter notes, discharge summaries and screens in EMR; Assists in the development of and participates in the facility’s in-service education program. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of speech therapy; good knowledge of pathological conditions and socio-economic factors affecting speech and swallowing disabilities; good knowledge of community resources available to support or supplement speech therapy programs; ability to prepare accurate reports; ability to secure the cooperation of clients; good professional judgment; ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with others; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. #J-18808-Ljbffr Wayne Economic Development Corporation
