Job Classification: 05 SUMMARY: Provides evaluation and treatment services for children, from birth to 21 years, with delays or disorders in the areas of self-care skills, perceptual/fine motor skills, sensory motor skills and oral-motor and feeding disorders. The goal is to increase the functioning level of a child with disabilities through activities which require the child to adapt to his/her physical and emotional surroundings and to assist parents in learning how to understand and deal with their child's needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises no employees in the Occupational Therapy Department, however may have direct supervision of occupational therapy students. Assists in supervising occupational therapy assistants in direct client treatment. Requirements QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program of Occupational Therapy. Past working experience or internship in a pediatric setting preferred. Specialty Certification (NOT, Sl, Pediatric) desired. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and professional documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from parents, case workers or members of the early intervention provider community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or Board of Directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to accurately score standardized assessments according to standardization charts in the manuals
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CLEARANCES: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Registered or eligible for registry by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Up-to-date child abuse clearances (within one year or completed and received before state date) including FBI Fingerprinting, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services' Child Abuse, and National Sex Offender Registry
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skilled in the use of assistive communication devices, computers and other keyboards, therapeutic toys and equipment, AOL equipment and splinting materials. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Administers occupational therapy evaluations and treatment in accordance with standards established by the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Documents evaluation results and recommendations in a formal report.
- Develops individual goal plan for each client in conjunction with client, family and other professionals.
- Plans and prepares daily treatment session activities/materials based on established goal plan.
- Complete all documentation and billing required for each client contact using the current EMR system for center-based clients (i.e. daily progress notes, discharge summaries and any other required reports).
- Efficient understanding of the current EMR system
- Understand required documentation formats for each referral sources, BHDS, ICJ 13, etc
- Communicate with physicians, families, teachers, payment sources and other professionals regarding treatment, home and school suggestions and coordination of care.
- Participate in inter-agency meetings, (full staff, multi-disciplinary team, department, I.U. #13 and BH/DS meetings and in-service training).
- Maintains upkeep of the Occupational Therapy Department by returning equipment to its appropriate location, cleans equipment as per Infection Control policy, informs department lead of low supplies.
- Assists in supervising shadow students, occupational therapy assistants, volunteers, and orientation of new staff
- Actively seeks educational opportunities for professional growth by attending in-house, in- service training and at least one outside continuing education conference each year.
- Maintains required CEUS for licensure and all required referral sources, (BHDS)
- Participates in any specialty programs within the realm of the Occupational Therapy Job Description as delegated by the department head (i.e. aquatics treatment, speaking engagements, etc)
- Responsible for provision of services in natural environment of assigned clients and shall possess personal mode of transportation to comply with requirement.
- Participate in the supervision of student internships by maintaining contact with all affiliating schools and filling out necessary forms to update records, monitoring and updating student programs and manual on a regular basis; supervising students either directly or via supervision of an appointed staff therapist; and evaluating student(s) at midterm and upon completion of affiliation when necessary
- Communicate effectively with scheduling dept, social work dept. and therapy Aide when required.
- Participates and supports center events, fundraising, and functions as needed
