Night Desk Assistant (Student Assistant) – Department Housing-Resident Programs & Services, University of Georgia, Athens, GA Job Overview The Night Desk Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for residents, guests, faculty, and staff at the university housing community desks. This student position provides customer service, key and equipment management, administrative support, and participates in all required training and meetings. Responsibilities Follow community desk policies and procedures, including key management, equipment check‑out, and access control. Address incidents and potential policy violations according to established protocols. Provide exemplary customer service to all residents, guests, faculty, and staff. Function as a resource for accurate information regarding university operations and housing services. Assist community office staff with administrative tasks and maintain accurate records. Support, communicate, enforce, and abide by all university and department policies, procedures, and regulations. Assist during crises or emergencies while maintaining confidentiality. Participate in the opening, closing, and transition of residence halls, including early arrivals and late departures during break periods. Participate in all departmental and community training sessions. Participate in staff meetings, community staff meetings, and one‑on‑one meetings with supervisors. Perform any other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications Must be enrolled at least part‑time (minimum of six credit hours for undergraduate/ professional students or five for graduate students) at the University of Georgia during the fall or spring semesters. Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing, having no unresolved disciplinary actions. Must be available to attend mandatory training on August 10, 11, and 12, 2026. Student employees may not hold dual employment within the university during summer terms, nor may they hold another student position when employed with University Housing. Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week when enrolled in classes, and not exceed 6 consecutive hours of work per shift without a 30‑minute break. Must be available for a minimum of 8 desk‑shift hours per week, including overnight shifts, weekends, academic breaks, and holidays. Prepared to work during some home football games as required by the assigned community. Background investigation and criminal background check are required as part of the hiring process. Will drive university vehicles when necessary to perform job tasks. Conditions of Employment Student employees are considered temporary employees and may be separated at any time for any reason without notice or appeal. The position is advertised at $12 hourly. Employment starts August 10, 2026. The position is open until filled. FLSA status: Non‑exempt; full‑time equivalent of 0.50.
