HR Generalist

The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day administration and delivery of Human Resources programs and services across the organization. This position serves as a resource to employees and leaders and is responsible for supporting employee relations, HR compliance, onboarding and offboarding, HRIS administration, benefits, leave administration, compensation processes, and general HR operations. The HR Generalist works closely with HR leadership and business leaders to ensure HR practices are consistent, compliant, timely, and aligned with company policies and business objectives. This role requires strong judgment, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Employee Relations Serve as an HR resource for employees and managers regarding workplace policies, procedures, and general employee relations matters. Assist with employee relations concerns, complaints, and workplace investigations. Support managers with performance management, corrective action, attendance, and employee conduct matters. Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information. HR Compliance Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Assist with maintaining and updating HR policies, procedures, employee handbook provisions, and required notices. Support Form I-9 and E-Verify administration and periodic compliance audits. Maintain accurate and complete employee records in accordance with company policies and applicable legal requirements. Employee Lifecycle Administration Coordinate and support employee onboarding and orientation activities. Process employee changes, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, manager changes, status changes, and terminations. Prepare employment-related documentation, including offer letters, compensation notices, transfer notices, and other employee communications. Coordinate employee offboarding and ensure appropriate documentation and HR system transactions are completed. HRIS and Employee Records Maintain accurate employee information within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Process employee data changes and regularly audit HR records for accuracy. Prepare HR reports and analyze employee data as requested. Maintain personnel files and other employment records in accordance with company retention and confidentiality requirements. Identify opportunities to improve HR workflows, documentation, and system processes. Leave and Benefits Administration Support administration of employee leaves of absence, including applicable federal and state leave programs. Track leave documentation, eligibility, approvals, and return-to-work requirements. Support annual benefits enrollment and employee benefits communications. Compensation and Payroll Support Assist with compensation changes, salary reviews, and internal compensation processes. Prepare and maintain compensation documentation and approvals. Partner with payroll to resolve employee pay or HR data discrepancies. Support compensation benchmarking and salary range analysis as needed. Assist with administration and documentation of bonus, incentive, and other compensation programs. Performance Management Support annual and periodic performance review processes. Assist managers with performance documentation and performance improvement plans. Track required performance documentation and follow-up activities. Provide guidance regarding consistent application of performance management practices. HR Programs and Projects Participate in HR initiatives, audits, system implementations, and process improvement projects. Assist with development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, forms, templates, and workflows. Compile HR metrics and reports to identify trends and support business decisions. Participate in employee engagement and retention initiatives. Perform other HR-related duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Management, or a related field preferred. 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in an HR Generalist or similar role. Experience supporting employee relations and HR compliance strongly preferred. Multi-state employment experience preferred. Mortgage, financial services, banking, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices. Strong understanding of employee relations and performance management principles. Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment. Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all organizational levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems. Ability to research HR compliance requirements and effectively communicate findings. Preferred Qualifications PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar Human Resources certification. Experience in the mortgage lending. Experience with HRIS implementations, audits, reporting, or process improvement. Experience conducting or supporting workplace investigations.
