Senior Accountant

Employment Type: Direct Hire Position Overview Our client is a rapidly growing technology and infrastructure services organization seeking a Senior GL Accountant to join its expanding accounting team. The company operates in a high-growth environment supporting complex projects and is continuing to invest heavily in its finance and accounting organization. This is an excellent opportunity for either a public accountant with 2+ years of audit/advisory experience looking to make the transition into industry or an industry accountant with 4+ years of strong corporate/GL accounting experience. The Senior GL Accountant will play an important role in the month-end close, general ledger, multi-entity accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, audit support, and forecasting/analysis. The team is looking for someone who wants to take ownership, operate independently, and grow as the organization continues to scale. Culture is equally important. Key Responsibilities Support and take increasing ownership of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities across multiple entities Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, intercompany transactions, and other recurring/non-recurring entries Perform balance sheet reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies Review general ledger and trial balance activity and identify unusual variances or accounting misclassifications Support multi-entity and intercompany accounting, including transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation and supporting schedules Support forecasting, cash flow analysis, budget-to-actual reporting, and other financial analysis Partner with project accounting and operational teams to ensure activity is accurately reflected within the general ledger Assist with job-cost and WIP-related accounting and reconciliations Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors and tax professionals Help maintain consistency across the chart of accounts and entity-level accounting Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, close efficiency, and reporting accuracy Collaborate with and provide guidance to junior accounting and project accounting team members Ensure accounting activities comply with GAAP and established company policies Who We're Looking For The team is open to candidates coming from either of two primary backgrounds: Public Accounting: 2+ years of public accounting experience, ideally within audit or advisory Big Four, national, regional, or strong local CPA firm backgrounds considered Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, general ledger activity, reconciliations, journal entries, and the accounting cycle Interested in transitioning from public accounting into a hands-on corporate accounting role Corporate / Industry Accounting: 4+ years of progressive corporate accounting or general ledger experience Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting Multi-entity and/or intercompany accounting experience strongly preferred Construction, project-based, technology, infrastructure, engineering, or similar industry experience is a plus but not required Additional Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field CPA or CPA candidate is a plus but not required Strong understanding of GAAP Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growing environment Energetic, outgoing, collaborative personality that fits a work-hard/play-hard culture Strong communication skills and willingness to work closely with accounting, finance, and operational teams Experience with job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, or project-based accounting is a plus Experience with construction/project ERP systems is a plus Must be comfortable working onsite five days per week in Rockville, MD Why Consider the Opportunity?
