Job TitleMetro's mission is to provide a world-class transportation system that enhances the quality of life for all who live, work, and play within LA County.DescriptionBasic FunctionUnder moderate supervision, repairs damage to revenue bus bodies.Examples of DutiesRepairs damaged bodies and body parts of revenue buses using a variety of hand and power tools following blue prints, specifications, diagrams, and repair manualsExamines damage to vehicles and estimates cost of repairsStraightens body panels, bent frames, supporting structures and other parts damaged in accidentsRemoves damaged parts, including panels, and floors, using wrenches and cutting toolsBolts, rivets, and welds replacement parts in positionFiles, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces, including bondo patchesRemoves upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic systems, window and seat assemblies and trim to allow access to damaged body structureAdjusts headlights, aligns frames and suspensions after repair of bodyContributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried outMinimum QualificationsTwo years of journey-level experience performing repair of heavy vehicle or automotive bodies and related parts and structures AND Completion of a 2 year program from accredited school in auto/truck body repair ORFour of years of journey-level experience performing repair of heavy vehicle or automotive bodies and related parts and structuresExperience repairing buses and related parts and structures desirableValid California Class C driver's licenseEssential KnowledgeKnowledgeTheories, principles, and practices in the repair of revenue bus bodies, frames, and structural partsOperations of various hand and power tools and equipment, including wrenches, cutting torches, welding equipment, hydraulic jacks and sandersPower equipment operations and safetyShop mathematicsVehicle operations and safetyAbilitiesRepair revenue bus bodies, frames and structural partsRead, understand, and apply blueprints, diagrams and specificationsAssess cost of repairsSafely operate Metro vehiclesSafely operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipmentCommunicate effectively with othersFollow verbal and written instructionsLift and move objects weighing up to 50 poundsTravel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframeRead, write, speak, and understand EnglishSpecial ConditionsMust possess required standard tools of the specified tradeMust comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when requiredPositions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulationsMetro is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ancestry, national origin, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, religion, age, veteran status, or disability.
