High School Diploma or GED

Must have an A.A. or minimum of 48 semester units, or 60 quarter units, or have passed the Paraprofessional Test (CODESP)

Valid TB test

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

Current Pediatric CPR/First Aide or obtain within first 30 days

Proficient Computer Skills, ability to use Word processing and database software

Ability to type at least 45 words per minute

Preferably have a background in medical training such as a Certified Nurses' Assistant or Medical Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

The health aide performs a wide variety of computer/clerical duties; works with the school nurse to ensure the delivery of specialized physical health care procedures; and follows health services procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and procedures.
• Appropriate English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic concepts.
• Standard office machines and equipment, including computer terminals and microcomputers, and appropriate software including Microsoft Office/Google applications.
• Automated record-management and filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques. California Education Code and District attendance policies/regulations.
• Operational procedures and policies, rules, regulations, and legal provision pertaining to students.

Ability to:

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Hear and speak to exchange and retrieve information in person and on the telephone.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Sample of daily duties, not limited to the following)

• Provides medication administration and records/monitors health room visits.
• Care for sick children in the health room, provides notification to parents and completes health room log.
• Assist students with specialized physical health care needs (i.e. diabetic, diapering, transferring, tube feeding, tracheotomy care etc.).
• Accompany student(s) on school field trips when necessary.
• Assist the school nurse with verifying status of immunizations and referrals, obtaining annual medication forms, and sending home notifications.
• Maintain appropriate records as directed by the school nurse.
• Foster a warm and open atmosphere in all contact with children.
• Maintain strict confidentiality in work related areas.
• Maintain adult and pediatric first aid/CPR certification.
• Submits LEA Billing as required
• Communicate and work collaboratively with the school nurse and site administration
• Ability to work independently using good organizational skills.
• Perform other related duties as required under supervision of the school nurse and/or under the direction of the site administration.
• Reports directly to the site administration
• Reports to site school nurse.
• Works with students in various educational settings and formats which may include: one-on-one, small group, whole group, in the classroom, on field trips, and during unstructured time as directed by the teacher;
• Attends to and supports a range of daily living skills and/or healthcare needs of individual students;
• Attends annual Health/Medication Protocol, Diapering & Toileting, and Specialized Health Care Procedures training provided by the District's Health Services Department.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the Superintendent or designee, in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the district.

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT: Office environment; subject to constant interruptions; driving to off-site locations to conduct work; supervision responsibilities including day and evening outdoor activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents, perform assigned duties; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; frequent walking of the school site.

• Kneel or squat for extended periods of time.
• Climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps, and ladders.
• Lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds frequently, and fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
• Push and pull objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
• Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation.
• Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate calculator, typewriter, and/or computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy in a safe and effective manner.
• Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to assist students with buttoning clothing, eating, operating a computer or assist staff with student toileting procedures.
• Work with cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and sanitizers in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction.
