Environmental Sustainability Manager

About the Role As Environmental Manager for our Delhi (NY) and Newington (CT) sites, you will oversee and manage the facility’s Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring environmental compliance and driving progress against our sustainability goals – energy, water, and waste. Responsibilities Implement Saputo’s EMS at the facility to achieve environmental objectives. Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, sustainability, compliance, engineering, and sanitation teams. Determine focus areas, develop tactical plans, and deliver on identified energy, water, and waste reduction goals. Advocate for and secure resources needed for EMS implementation. Build EMS-related capability through tools, training, and ongoing guidance. Communicate environmental progress and impact to internal and external stakeholders. Monitor and measure environmental KPIs, providing insights and opportunities for improvement. Lead continual performance improvement initiatives within the compliance and sustainability spheres. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing plant with technical capacity to assess and optimize utility systems (heat & steam, compressed air, refrigeration, Clean in Place, etc.). Hands‑on problem‑solving ability with a coachable attitude and strong practical reasoning. Direct professional experience in environmental roles, including resource conservation programs, project management in a manufacturing setting, KPI collection & analysis, and EMS implementation. Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental standards and regulations. Strong communication skills in writing reports, procedures, and presentations to senior leadership and cross‑functional teams. Proficiency with MS Office, data modeling/analytics, and familiarity with PLCs, process instrumentation, and drawings. Willingness to travel between site locations on a regular basis (minimum once per month). Professional environmental certifications (e.g., AEE, CEM, ASHRAE, BEP) and ISO 14000/50000 knowledge are a plus. Benefits Salary range: $90,000 – $105,000, plus bonus.
