Water and Wastewater Engineer - Design and Treatment

About the Role Our client, a forward-thinking environmental engineering firm located in Welkom , is seeking a dedicated Water and Wastewater Engineer. This role is central to designing and implementing solutions for water treatment, wastewater management, and water resource engineering across various projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and treatment processes, combined with practical project experience. The work involves both office-based design and potential site visits to project locations. Key Responsibilities Design and develop plans for water treatment plants, wastewater collection systems, and related infrastructure. Perform hydraulic modeling and analysis for water distribution networks and sewer systems. Evaluate and select appropriate treatment technologies for potable water and wastewater. Prepare design reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. Conduct feasibility studies and environmental impact assessments for water-related projects. Oversee the construction phase of projects, ensuring compliance with designs and standards. Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Troubleshoot operational issues and optimize existing water and wastewater systems. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in water and wastewater engineering technologies and regulations. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical support. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a specialization in water/wastewater. Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech. Eng.) is highly desirable. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and management of water and wastewater engineering projects. Proven experience with water treatment processes (e.g., filtration, disinfection) and wastewater treatment technologies (e.g., activated sludge, MBRs). Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g., EPANET, SWMM) and CAD software. Knowledge of South African water quality standards and environmental regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
