Position Overview Occupational Therapist – Pediatric Day Shift (United States of America) Job Title: Occupational Therapist I Job Code: 1113, 5114 Department: Mary Free Bed System FLSA Class: Hourly/Non‑Exempt Reporting Relationship: Program Manager, Site Leader, or Team Leader Age Specific Responsibility Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Core Responsibilities Provide patient care (Q). Evaluate patient condition (Q). Establish treatment goals in collaboration with patient and family, and with the treatment team (Q). Develop written treatment plan and administer treatment according to established goals (Q). Delegate responsibilities to occupational therapy assistants as appropriate (Q). Re‑evaluate patient status and treatment effects, revising treatment plan as necessary (Q). Review revised goals with patient and family as appropriate (Q). Evaluate patient need for medical equipment, order and evaluate equipment upon delivery, and instruct patient, family and health‑care workers on its use (Q). Participate in discharge planning, considering patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations (Q). Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required for job duties (Q). Document patient status and progress through initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according to established internal/external time standards and reimbursement guidelines (Q). Communicate with others to integrate occupational therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care (Q, S). Participate in conferences/discussions as needed and exchange written records with interdisciplinary team members to integrate treatment plan (Q, S). Instruct patient and family in occupational therapy procedures as part of education, including written instructions (Q, P). Attend various meetings and in‑services as designated (Q, P). Follow all hospital policy and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control (Q). Meet or exceed program productivity expectations (F). Provide discipline‑specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested (F, S). Adhere to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers and members of the community (Q, S, P). Support program operations as assigned (Q, S, P, G, F). Participate in orientation and training of new staff (Q, S, P, G, F). Serve as clinical instructor for occupational therapy students, supervise, teach, and evaluate skills of students, and communicate with participating universities (Q, P). Participate in program development and/or research activities (S). Meet or exceed clinical outcome collection standards established by department leadership (Q, S, P, G, F). Meet or exceed clinical outcome performance/improvement goals established by department leadership in designated programs (Q, S, P, G, F). Essential Job Qualifications Graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association accredited occupational therapy program. Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Licensure is required in every U.S. state and territory the therapist is practicing; licensure requirements should be met according to individual state laws. Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.
