Work Environment, Physical Requirements & ScheduleThis is a hands-on, physically active role ideal for someone who enjoys working with tools, solving mechanical problems, and seeing the results of their work firsthand. Maintenance Specialists (Railcar Repairman/Carman) spend most of their day repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining railcars in both shop and outdoor environments.What to Expect:Perform mechanical repairs, welding, fabrication, and component rebuilds throughout the shiftWork with hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welders, grinders, hoists, and other shop equipmentRegularly climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, grip tools, and work from various positions to access railcar componentsLift and move materials and parts weighing up to 80 pounds, with frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds and regular lifting of 25-50 poundsWork around moving equipment, heavy machinery, welding operations, and industrial repair activitiesUse electronic systems to document completed repairs and maintenanceWorking Conditions:Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, and snowRegular exposure to welding and cutting operations, noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, grease, and dirt common in an industrial railcar repair facilityWork at elevated heights and around large rail equipment may be requiredPersonal protective equipment (PPE) is required and includes steel-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, welding shields, and other safety gear as neededSchedule & Training:Typically 8 to 10-hour shiftsSchedules and days off may vary based on operational needsFlexibility to work days, nights, weekends, overtime, and holidays as neededSuccessfully complete a mandatory 4-week training program upon hireWhy Maintenance Specialists Enjoy This RoleIf you take pride in hands-on work, enjoy troubleshooting mechanical equipment, and want a career where your skills make a visible impact every day, this role offers the opportunity to build expertise in railcar maintenance while working as part of a skilled team that keeps the North American rail network moving safely and efficiently.About UsTTX Company is a leading provider of railcars and related freight car management services to the North American rail industry.
