Position Summary : This position requires providing conceptual and detailed design of mechanical/piping systems & components used during project execution of industrial plant design.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Mechanical 3D Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work with Leadership Senior Engineers Engineers and Senior Designers assigned to lead project work.
• Perform computer aided drafting necessary to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant especially to create and support the 3D CAD models used to design Midrex plants.
• Be proficient in the use of computer aided drafting and design software such as AutoCAD Inventor Aveva E3D and related Autodesk products.
• Take and/or prepare conceptual designs sketches and ideas from Engineers and Senior Designers requirements to develop the details necessary for a complete engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing erection in the field design analysis etc.
• Layout of plant equipment piping and utility systems in 3D model of plant.
• Perform checking of mechanical drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas design sketches applicable standards etc.
• Travel to job sites to perform analyses of existing structures equipment piping routes layouts etc. for use in developing future plans proposals etc.
• Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions.
• Assist Senior Designers and Engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design.
• Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
• Provide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals including bulk-material estimates developed from existing models and databases.

Skills/Abilities:

Required:

• Advanced 3D computer modeling skills including use of Aveva E3D and PDMS products (or equivalent).
• Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
• Proficient Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering.
• Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.

Preferred:

• International travel experience.
• Industrial plant experience.
• AutoCAD Inventor experience.
• Database management of engineering and/or modeling data.

Education and Experience:

• Associate Degree in civil and/or mechanical discipline.
• A minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in a technical environment.

Travel Requirements:

• Up to 10% International and Domestic based upon project demands.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to move around a project site including climbing structures.
