Position Title Adjunct, Languages and Linguistics (Lancaster campus) – Part time Position Summary The Department of Languages and Linguistics at Saint Joseph’s University seeks highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of courses each semester. Knowledge of proficiency‑based teaching in modern languages is essential. Professionals with experience in college teaching will receive preference. Part‑time adjunct faculty may instruct 1 to 2 courses each semester on an “as needed” basis. Courses are offered during the day and in the evening at SJU’s Lancaster campus. They include introductory, intermediate, or conversation level courses in French, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish. These courses are taught in person on campus; no online or remote instruction is available. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Teaching of specified course/language Preparation of materials Providing support and guidance to students Keeping posted office hours (1hr per course) Giving prompt, regular feedback to students about academic performance Reporting mid‑semester and final grades electronically Cooperating with course coordinators or other program faculty to assure quality and consistency across the program Secondary Duties & Responsibilities Participate in planning and coordination meetings Cooperate in program assessments Minimum Qualifications Required Master’s Degree in a relevant World Language or closely related field Native or near‑native proficiency in both the target language and in English Ability to teach classes in person on campus according to the academic schedule Preferred Qualifications ABD or PhD in a relevant World Language or closely related field Native‑level proficiency in the target language Previous teaching experience at the university level Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling Required Documents Cover letter / Letter of interest Resume / Curriculum Vitae Statement of Teaching Philosophy Optional Documents Teaching Evaluation Equal Opportunity Statement Saint Joseph’s University is an equal‑opportunity employer that seeks to recruit, develop and retain a diverse workforce.
