Media Relations Director

Position Title: Media Relations Director Organization: Ripple 2 Wave Foundation Location: Phoenix, AZ area THIS IS A VOLUNTEER POSITION, 2-3 HOURS/WEEK This role as Media Relations Director is a perfect fit for someone who loves the art of storytelling and feels at home on camera, yet is looking for a meaningful way to channel their passion for giving back within a flexible, few-hours-a-week commitment. We are a new non profit organization (Launched June 2, 2026). Through a diverse portfolio of outreach programs, including youth empowerment, environmental projects, senior and veteran support, animal advocacy, and homelessness outreach, we strive to transform compassion into measurable change. Position Summary: The Media Relations Director leads Ripple 2 Wave Foundation’s media strategy, ensuring the organization’s mission, milestones, and impact stories reach the public with clarity, consistency, and purpose. This role is responsible for cultivating strong relationships with press and media outlets, managing crisis communications, and amplifying Ripple 2 Wave’s visibility across platforms. The ideal candidate is a gifted communicator, strategic thinker, and passionate storyteller with a deep commitment to equity and social impact. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies to increase visibility and public engagement Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson for the organization Represents the organization handling media interviews and speaking engagements unless fitting for President, Vice President, or Executive Directors to be interviewed. Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, influencers, and media outlets Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and op-eds Pitch compelling stories and secure press coverage for events, programs, and impact initiatives Manage media-related aspects of crisis communications in coordination with leadership Prepare talking points, press kits, and media training for spokespeople and leadership Collaborate with the social media or marketing team to align messaging Qualifications: 1+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications preferred, but not required Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong media contacts and proven track record of securing earned media Ability to distill complex ideas into compelling, accessible messaging Experience working in mission-driven or nonprofit settings is highly desirable Proficiency in media monitoring tools, press distribution platforms, and content management systems Why Join Us?
