Backend Software Engineer

Role Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python.
• Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database objects.
• Design normalized and scalable PostgreSQL database schemas.
• Optimize SQL queries and database performance for large datasets.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues using query execution plans and indexing strategies.
• Write database migrations and maintain data integrity across releases.
• Build REST APIs and integrate them with backend services.
• Collaborate with application developers to design efficient data models.
• Participate in code reviews focusing on both application and database quality.
• Create unit and integration tests for backend components.
• Support deployment activities and production issue resolution when required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
• Excellent SQL skills, including:
  • Complex joins
  • CTEs
  • Window functions
  • Views
  • Stored Procedures
  • Functions
  • Triggers
  • Performance tuning
  • Indexing strategies
• Experience writing and optimizing production-grade SQL queries.
• Strong understanding of relational database design and normalization.
• Hands-on experience with Python backend development.
• Experience building REST APIs.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Experience debugging production database issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

• 3+ years professional Python backend experience.
• Real experience with both Django and FastAPI.
• Can write SQL stored procedures, not just basic queries (this will be tested — most "Python devs" fail here).
• PostgreSQL preferred; other relational DB ok if SQL skills are strong.
• Can work independently with minimal onboarding.
