Public Safety Officer I - Evening Shift

Review all options at Duties Partner with the Guest Services team to enhance security and to create a patient- and family-centered culture. Responsible for day-to-day operations at entrances by maintaining a safe environment and utilizing the weapons detection systems. Provide superior customer service and be trained in de-escalation techniques and conflict management. Work closely with internal security patrols of JHMI buildings to protect against illegal activities, theft, fire, hazardous conditions, infringements, etc., when/where necessary. Ensure no one enters the hospital with weapons or other unpermitted objects that could cause a safety issue. Qualifications Possession of DC Security Officer License or must file for license within the first 2 weeks of employment. The successful candidate must obtain the Officer's license within the first 45 days of employment. Candidate must be 21 years of age or older to apply and test for the Security Police Officer License. High School Diploma or GED required. Valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications. Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR. Candidates must also have no more than 8 points from driving-related infractions, violations, or convictions, or no more than 15 or more points resulting from any type of non-valid license status (expired, suspended, etc.) on Samba risk assessment. Note: checks are completed separately; failing either requirement will disqualify the candidate from the pre-boarding process. SambaSafety evaluates driving risk; employees in driving-privilege roles are subject to ongoing monitoring. Successful completion of post-hire entry training including CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de-escalation. Must maintain certification requirements. Certification in healthcare security (e.g., CHPA, CHSO) or other relevant security certifications is highly desirable. Minimum of one year of security experience is highly preferred. Successful completion of basic security officer training and customer service training within the first 90 days of hire. Previous hospital security experience is a plus. May have to work other shifts as necessary. 30-day notice prior to any shift change. Shift Full-Time (40 hours per week) — Day Shift. Weekend work required. Non-Exempt. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
