Responsibilities VA Careers - Lead Medical Support Assistant: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The incumbent serves as a Lead Medical Support Assistant in Specialty Care Clinic. The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information. The incumbent will interface with personal computer (PC) applications as well as numerous Vista applications. The duties include but are not limited to: Assists in making daily assignments for the outpatient clinic areas to ensure each area is adequately covered. Provides information to the supervisor regarding subordinates' performance. Resolves issues independently, involving supervisors only when necessary. Monitors Clinic Cancellation for approved Provider leave requests. Monitors Scheduling for accuracy. Provides guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules. Provides on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met. Employee plans and organizes work with general assistance from the supervisor as to meet local and VA-wide time frames to complete analysis requirements, reports and special assignments and only refers to the non-routine and high technical problems to his/her supervisor. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills and is constantly aware of the sensitive information. Grade Determinations: GS-7 Grade Level Experience. One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. AND, Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate [all of] the KSAs below: i. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community. ii. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. iii. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. iv. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. v. Ability to provide staff development and training. vi. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics.
