Full-Time Office Assistant I
The City of Twentynine Palms is hiring for Full-Time Office Assistant I. The Office Assistant I is assigned to all duties of the front desk at City Hall including serving as a general receptionist and information center for the City of Twentynine Palms while providing a high level of professional customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff. Under direct supervision of the City Manager, this position provides information to the general public, operates multiple telephone lines, screens phone calls to appropriate City staff, receives and processes all City mail, performs cashiering duties including accounts receivable, and directs City Hall visitors to appropriate departments. The position performs general clerical duties including searching records and files for readily identified information, completes a variety of routine to complex office and administrative support requiring thorough knowledge of various departments as well as their policies, procedures, and operating details; prepares correspondence using independent judgment in content and style; interacts frequently with the public and explains City and/or departmental policies and procedures; and performs related work as required. This position may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in person or over the phone in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Must possess an equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- One (1) year of varied administrative support experience involving public contact and customer service.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Office) is desired.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License to be maintained throughout employment, including satisfactory driving record and valid automobile insurance.
Regular Full Time Employee Benefits:
- Health Insurance- CalPERS Medical: For 2026 the City pays up to $917.91/month for Employee, up to $1415.94/month for Employee+ 1 dependent, or up to $1720.84/month for Family towards CalPERS medical insurance.
- Health Insurance Opt-Out Option: Employee must provide proof of current health insurance, and the City contributes $250 per month into one of the City's 457 (b) plan of employee's choice.
- Dental and Vision Insurance: City pays 100% of dental and vision coverage for employee and their dependents.
- Retirement Benefits: The City participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System: CalPERS New Member (PEPRA): New CalPERS participants hired on or after 1/1/2013, 2% @ 62 - Employee pays 7.75% of the contribution per paycheck. CalPERS Classic Member: Prior CalPERS member qualifying public service, 2.5% @ 55, Employee pays 8% of the contribution per paycheck.
- The City does not participate in Social Security.
- Sick leave: 3.69 hours per pay period.
- Vacation: 3.69 hours accrued per pay period, with higher increments accrued at years 5 and 10.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP): City paid EAP. Some of the services included in the EAP are 3 sessions per 6 months of confidential counseling, legal and financial services, work life benefits and resources including child, elder and pet care referrals and resources, travel resources, health and wellness referrals and resources, veteran resources, and support.
- Holidays: 13 paid holidays.
- Short-Term and Long-Term Disability: City paid disability insurance.
- Life Insurance: $30,000 City paid policy.
- Optional 457 (b) Deferred Compensation Program: Employee paid plans are available through Nationwide and CalPERS Voya.
