Literacy Specialist
$100kCrossover for Work
$100,000 annual salary, paid weekly, with health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one 40-hour work week across five days, on-site at a single Alpha campus, relocation assistance provided You can catch a miscue and identify the underlying gap: the vowel team that was never mastered, the blend that gets guessed instead of read. You will apply that skill daily. The harder part comes immediately after. When a six-year-old sits in front of you, nearly in tears, the correct response is rarely to simply provide the answer. Alpha operates unlike any school where you likely trained. Students complete their full academic core in roughly two hours each morning through independent work on AI-adaptive applications — no lectures, no textbooks, no pacing guides. Life-skills workshops fill the remainder of the day. Adults at Alpha are called Guides instead of teachers, and the distinction is intentional: you are not there to deliver content. You ensure students engage with their work, develop motivation to complete it, and navigate obstacles the app cannot resolve. You remain with the same group of students from morning launch through closing: core learning sessions, workshops, lunch, recess, and check-chart time. This level of contact reveals what a running record cannot. Within two weeks, you will identify which student is faking fluency — reading the page smoothly because she memorized it days earlier, not because she can actually decode it. Once you identify the gap, there are no barriers to addressing it. No referral process, no committee approval, no waiting for availability. You gather two to four students and deliver a targeted fifteen-minute workshop designed for that precise error pattern — phoneme-grapheme mapping, blending drills, decodable text, whatever the situation demands — verify the skill transferred, then return them to independent work. You will not be writing lesson plans for two dozen children late into the night. Your planning is focused and diagnostic: identifying who requires support tomorrow and determining what intervention will actually advance them. You maintain the daily goal without quietly reducing expectations, because parents review weekly data and will expect you to explain any gaps. Alpha is launching campuses nationwide, and the constraint is finding people who can execute this well. Those who demonstrate competence help recruit and train incoming Guides and develop programs that other campuses implement. Some advance into lead roles coaching teams, where the judgment underlying literacy work becomes the primary responsibility. That progression is earned through performance, not granted automatically. Your resume alone will not determine the outcome. If what makes you effective at this work has never translated neatly onto paper, that is precisely the point. We recruit nationally, so job boards may list this role in nearby cities without campuses. Current openings: AZ – Phoenix OK – Oklahoma City and Tulsa TX – Dallas, Fort Worth (Keller), Plano, and The Woodlands UT – Park City (Salt Lake City) What You Will Be Doing Facilitating targeted structured-literacy workshops with two to four students — identifying phonics or decoding gaps through running records and fluency probes, designing and teaching a targeted sequence, and verifying transfer of skills Guiding students through app-based core learning: identifying who has stalled, asking questions that help them progress, maintaining daily goals Facilitating morning launch, life-skills workshops, and check-chart activities that maintain engagement with six‑year‑olds Motivating students toward their weekly app goals through school currency, leaderboards, and age‑appropriate gamification Remaining with your students throughout lunch, recess, and closing, addressing refusal and frustration with individualized plans for each child What You Won’t Be Doing Writing nightly lesson plans for an entire class. Your planning is focused and diagnostic Managing a pull‑out caseload from a separate intervention room. Reading groups comprise approximately a tenth of your week and occur within the regular day, not as a separate program Implementing a published program with strict adherence to someone else's scope and sequence Drafting IEPs and 504 plans, managing testing documentation, or participating in curriculum committees Transferring your students to another adult during a prep period. You remain with them from launch through closing Literacy Specialist Key Responsibilities Ensure every K-3 student reaches their daily learning goals and address the reading gaps preventing them from achieving those goals independently. Teaching certification is not required Comfortable dedicating approximately 90% of your day to guiding students through app‑based learning, workshops, and campus routines, with 10% focused on reading sessions Willing to work with all K‑3 students, not exclusively struggling readers Legally authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship Nice‑to‑have Requirements You can maintain engagement in a room full of six‑year‑olds using only your energy and well‑designed activities Tired children consistently returned to your after‑school or summer program Experience with reading platforms (Amira, Lexia, i-Ready) or diagnostic assessment tools (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) You can describe a specific child whose decoding you improved and explain your exact approach You have worked in non‑traditional school models: charter, micro‑school, Montessori, or hybrid environments About Alpha Join the team building school around student growth Roles with real student impact Alpha hires teachers (guides), operators, admissions experts, school & curriculum leaders, and remote team members.
