They must be able to adapt to the available resources. A well-rounded clinical approach across a variety of responsibilities is essential. Recent experience in multiple surgical procedures is required. Required skills include tonsillectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, and hernia repair. Experience in thyroidectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, anterior and posterior repair, bilateral tubal ligation, and dilation and curettage is necessary. Knowledge of vaginal hysterectomy, arthroscopy, closed/open reduction of fractures, total hip replacement, and total knee replacement is important. Familiarity with gynecologic robotic surgery, cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, and transurethral resection of the prostate is also required. Certification in fire safety, aseptic technique, laser safety, radiation safety, sharps safety, and specimen handling and labeling is expected. Understanding of sterilization, disinfection, and the universal protocol procedure is essential.
