Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: L&D Duration: 13 weeks Shift: PM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of L&D experience preferred License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: AWHONN fetal monitoring, NRP, ACLS, BLS Must-Have: RNC-OB or C-EFM preferred Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates patient responses. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in transitioning through healthcare encounters without complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions based on the nursing practice act, patient condition, and staff competencies. This role includes RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24/7 staffing needs. Essential Functions: Using clinical reasoning, the RN conducts accurate assessments according to practice standards. Identifying and prioritizing patient and family needs is critical. Development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing plans of care are essential. The RN modifies plans to meet clinical outcomes as necessary. Systematic evaluations of nursing practice quality and effectiveness are encouraged. The RN supports evidence-based practice changes through research and experiential learning. Participation in quality/performance improvement initiatives is expected. Creating a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families is crucial. Developing therapeutic relationships and maintaining appropriate boundaries are key responsibilities. Managing both emotional and physical pain promotes comfort and healing. Recognizing and incorporating unique patient and family differences into individualized care plans is important. The RN preserves and protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. Creating individualized plans that reflect patient and family values and goals is essential. Facilitating learning for patients, families, and the healthcare team is expected throughout the continuum of care. Collaboration with colleagues and community members to develop integrated care plans is necessary. The RN must be open and sensitive to team members' contributions. Delegating tasks and ensuring timely follow-up is required. Utilizing problem-solving strategies and available resources for patients, families, and staff is essential. The RN recognizes limitations of resources while considering safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning. Improving nursing practice and the work environment through participation in shared governance is important. Identifying personal goals for ongoing professional growth is encouraged. Contributing to the professional development of peers is essential. Commitment to community service is valued. Key Success Factors: Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures are essential. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and standards that govern nursing care is required. Understanding medical terminology and practices related to health promotion is needed.
