Business Development Manager

We are launching a clinician-led, mental-health-primary PHP/IOP in the University area of Charlotte and are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead referral development and census growth from day one. This is not an entry-level or “learn the market” role. We are specifically looking for a senior business development professional who already has established referral relationships in the Charlotte behavioral health ecosystem and can immediately activate those relationships to drive admissions. Key Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and expand referral relationships with: Therapists and group practices Psychiatrists and prescribers Hospitals and discharge planners Primary care and specialty providers Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) Other aligned healthcare partners Drive consistent, ethical admissions growth for PHP and IOP levels of care Represent the program professionally in the community through in-person outreach, meetings, and events Maintain accurate referral tracking and follow-up to ensure strong conversion and continuity of care Collaborate closely with clinical leadership to ensure appropriate placements and high-quality handoffs Provide market feedback on referral trends, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable) 5+ years of business development experience in behavioral health Direct, recent experience in the Charlotte, NC market Existing, active referral relationships that can be leveraged immediately Proven track record of driving census growth for PHP, IOP, residential, or related levels of care Strong understanding of ethical marketing practices and compliance in behavioral health Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills Preferred Background Experience working with mental-health-primary programs (PHP/IOP strongly preferred) Familiarity with private insurance and out-of-network referral dynamics Experience collaborating closely with clinicians and executive leadership What We Offer Opportunity to help build and shape a high-quality, clinician-led program from the ground up Leadership visibility and direct access to executive decision-making Competitive compensation with performance-based incentives (details discussed with qualified candidates) A culture focused on clinical excellence, integrity, and long-term sustainability—not volume at any cost Candidates must already be established in the Charlotte behavioral health community .
