An exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting leader to step into a high-impact Assistant Controller role within a high-growth, private equity-backed organization that’s making a difference nationwide through sports, spirit, and student engagement. This is more than just a technical accounting role — it’s an opportunity to lead a dynamic team , help shape the direction of the accounting function, and collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership across multiple business units. What You’ll Do Lead, coach, and develop a team of ~15, including managers, seniors, and staff. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations , including full ownership of the monthly close process. Perform and review complex reconciliations and high-dollar journal entries . Conduct and document technical accounting research ; prepare memos and present conclusions. Review and present balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses to senior management. Manage and oversee areas such as lease accounting (ASC 842), equity comp, goodwill impairment (ASC 350), and acquisition accounting . Coordinate with internal and external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Assist in managing the consolidated chart of accounts . Maintain compliance with US GAAP and ensure effectiveness of internal controls (SOX). Identify and implement process improvements with a continuous improvement mindset. ✅ What You Bring 8–12 years of accounting experience , ideally with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and industry roles. Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and develop teams. Deep expertise in US GAAP and technical accounting topics. Demonstrated experience in fast-paced, complex organizations (multi-entity or PE-backed preferred). Experience with large ERP systems (SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle, or PeopleSoft). Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Power BI, Power Query, PowerPivot .
