PSD Chemistry: He Group One of the first departments founded at the University of Chicago, the Department of Chemistry has produced more than 73 Nobel Prize recipients, 15 of which came from our faculty. Faculty strengths include inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, as well as interdisciplinary research in biology, physics, and materials science. Job Summary The Staff Scientist will lead translational research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Chuan He. The role requires a highly experienced plant biologist with prior research experience in RNA regulation in plant immunity and development in Arabidopsis and crops. A Ph.D. in plant biology and postdoctoral or equivalent experience in plant biology are required. Responsibilities Operate in a highly collaborative mode with all group members, Institute colleagues, and off‑campus collaborators. Under general supervision of the principal investigator, supervise or assist with complex technical duties in non‑clinical research. Compile documents and assist with interpreting presentations or reports stemming from laboratory scientific contributions. Give frequent internal and occasional external talks and tutorials on project progress. Lead scientific writing and publication efforts, including protocols and grant proposals. Mentor and supervise lab technicians and undergraduate students within the group. Perform experiments, collect and analyze data, and participate in the promotion of research projects. Collaborate on development of new research projects with academic and community organizations. May present work at scientific meetings and perform related tasks as needed. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in a related field. Less than 2 years of post‑doctoral or equivalent work experience in a related discipline. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, or Plant Biology. Postdoctoral experience with a focus on plant biology. Experience with plant RNA regulation and plant immunity. Proficiency with standard laboratory equipment and computer programs. Knowledge of relevant scientific fields, regulatory policies, and procedures. Strong problem‑solving, organization, analytical, and coordination skills. Excellent oral and written communication abilities. Ability to read, comprehend, and apply scientific literature. Capacity to work independently and as part of a diverse team. Creative thinking and effective communication of scientific discoveries through publications and talks.
