Respiratory Therapist

Urgent need - will accept an immediate off-cycle start date. Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program. Basic computer skills are required. Physical requirements include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Frequent reaching and handling of objects is necessary. Occasional stooping and crouching may be required. Systematically gather and evaluate relevant information and data from patient interviews and other information sources. Develop an appropriate care plan for patients based on collected data. Identify variations from expected findings and understand their significance. Take appropriate actions when variations are identified. Assess the patient's learning needs and readiness to learn. Identify when it is appropriate to involve family or significant others in patient education. Plan for and provide patient teaching based on assessed needs. Evaluate the patient's understanding of their condition and treatment. Inform the patient of their care plan and discharge instructions. Document the implementation of the plan of care and any adverse events. Measure and administer medication dosages per physician's orders. Administer respiratory therapy treatments and oxygen therapy. Obtain arterial blood gases per policy. Perform pulse oximetry and ensure accurate results. Conduct pulmonary function testing following established standards. Perform EKGs and ensure quality recordings. Assist with flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy as needed. Set up mechanical ventilators, including BIPAP and CPAP units, and select patient parameters. Assess mechanical ventilators and BIPAP and CPAP functioning for safety. Review patient status and recommend changes to their care plan. Provide instruction on proper use of cardiopulmonary medications and equipment. Distribute age and culturally specific patient education materials. Implement components of the VAP bundle consistently per protocol. Alert management if there is a deviation from VAP bundle by attending physician for case review and follow-up.
