Universal Banker

Job Overview Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Universal Banker to join our team. This on‑site role involves independently performing basic to moderately complex banking transactions, delivering excellent customer service, ensuring operational quality and accuracy, following all related policies and procedures and compliance with banking regulations, and actively assisting customers and offering referrals for additional products and services. Responsibilities Transaction Processing : Performs routine teller transactions and works directly with customers. Accepts, verifies, and processes basic to more complex customer transactions according to established procedures and security guidelines. Handles deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, transfers, and mail or night‑drop transactions. Provides comprehensive deposit services to individuals, fiduciary, and small businesses. Opens and closes checking, savings, money‑market, CD, and IRA accounts. Assists with account reconcilement, statement and check copies, check orders, account closures, address changes, stop payments, debit‑card maintenance, wire transfers, safe‑deposit box access, online and mobile banking issues, and resolves customer concerns. Assists at other branches as needed. Customer Service & Sales : Interviews and profiles new and existing customers to recommend appropriate banking products and services. Promotes the full range of deposit and lending products that best meet the customer’s needs. Provides exemplary customer service in person and over the phone, representing the bank with professionalism and courtesy. Responds to inquiries accurately and promptly and performs follow‑up calls to ensure satisfaction. Cash Handling & Security : Maintains and balances a cash supply, adhering to all cash‑handling policies. Balances cash at shift end, reviews transactions for red flags and fraud, stays aware of criminal scams, and reviews accounts before overrides. Handles ATM processing, daily branch balancing, cash orders, and assists with branch opening and closing security procedures. Administrative & Compliance Tasks : Gathers data and processes reports (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, Reg CC, holds, overdraft) to ensure compliance with bank policies, the Bank Secrecy Act/AML, and regulatory programs. Completes required compliance training by deadlines, reviews others’ work for compliance, and may participate in monthly branch audits or daily operational review. Travel : 10‑20% Who You Are High School Degree or GED required. Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience. Minimum of 1 year of banking and cash‑handling experience. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer service orientation. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member. Ability to make decisions using available information. Working knowledge of bank deposit products and services. Working knowledge of bank consumer loan products. Basic knowledge of alternative bank services and vendor‑provided products. Ability to persuade customers about the value and benefits of bank products and services. Knowledge of applicable bank policies and procedures.
