Mars Hill Liquors is seeking an experienced, motivated, and customer-focused Beer Department Manager to lead one of the store's largest and most important departments. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the beer department, including inventory management, merchandising, ordering, stocking, pricing, and customer service.

In addition to managing the beer department, the Beer Department Manager serves as a key member of the store leadership team by assisting with general retail operations, supporting customers, and helping maintain an exceptional shopping experience throughout the store.

Essential Responsibilities
Beer Department Management

• Maintain fully stocked shelves, coolers, and promotional displays.
• Organize and maintain warehouse back stock.
• Rotate inventory using first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
• Monitor inventory levels and place or recommend product orders.
• Verify deliveries and resolve receiving discrepancies.
• Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventories.
• Monitor inventory accuracy, shrink, damaged merchandise, and product freshness.
• Identify slow-moving products and recommend merchandising or pricing adjustments.
• Build attractive seasonal, holiday, and promotional displays.
• Maintain accurate shelf labels, pricing, and signage.
• Keep the department clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready at all times.

Customer Service & Sales

• Assist customers in selecting products and making recommendations.
• Answer questions regarding beer styles, brands, seasonal offerings, and promotions.
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and courteously.
• Promote featured products and increase department sales through effective merchandising.

General Store Operations

• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and assist customers at the register as business needs require.
• Stock, face, merchandise, and price products throughout the store when needed.
• Assist with store-wide merchandising projects and seasonal resets.
• Help maintain overall store cleanliness and presentation.
• Support other departments during busy periods or special events.
• Follow all company policies and Indiana alcohol regulations.

Leadership

• Train, direct, and support assigned stocking personnel when applicable.
• Communicate department opportunities and operational concerns to store management.
• Work collaboratively with vendors, delivery drivers, and fellow team members.
• Demonstrate initiative by identifying opportunities to improve department performance and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Previous grocery, retail, beverage, warehouse, or merchandising experience preferred.
• Previous ordering, inventory, or department management experience is highly desirable.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
• Comfortable operating retail technology, including POS systems and handheld inventory devices.
• Ability to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to work a consistent full-time schedule, including Fridays, Saturdays, and occasional evenings.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate has experience in retail, grocery, warehouse, beverage, or merchandising and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Experience with inventory management, stocking, ordering, pricing, merchandising, or leading a department is preferred.

Candidates should have strong customer service and communication skills, be well organized, and be able to work independently while contributing as part of a team. Basic computer and point-of-sale (POS) experience is preferred.

This position requires the ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds, safely operate pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment, and stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.

Applicants must be dependable, have a strong work ethic, and be available to work a consistent full-time schedule, including Fridays, Saturdays, and occasional evenings.

Leadership experience in grocery, warehouse, big-box retail, or beverage distribution is strongly preferred but not required.
