Financial Clearance Specialist IV – Admitting Full Time, 8 Hour Variable Shift (Non Union) – Glendale, Los Angeles, CA – USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, part of Keck Medicine of USC. Overview The Financial Clearance Specialist IV is responsible for ensuring insurance eligibility, benefit verification, and authorization processes are complete. The role requires maintaining accurate insurance records, understanding insurance plans and authorization details to optimize reimbursement, and adjudicating Letters of Agreement with non‑contracted payers. The Specialist must also determine, communicate, and collect patient liability prior to service, handle Medicare Secondary Questionnaires, and maintain HIPAA compliance. Continuous professional development through workshops, seminars, and webinars is essential to stay current on industry regulations. Responsibilities Verify insurance eligibility and confirm benefit coverage. Complete and submit authorizations for all service types in hospital and professional settings. Adjudicate Letters of Agreement and collect patient liability at the point of service. Maintain accurate documentation of insurance information, payer contracts, and legal agreements. Process Medicare Secondary Questionnaires with patients or their representatives. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations in all insurance processes. Attend workshops, in‑services, and webinars to remain up‑to‑date on insurance rules and industry changes. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 years experience in a hospital, health plan, or physician office environment. Extensive knowledge of contracted and non‑contracted payers, division of financial responsibility, and payer DOFR. Proficient in interpretation of payer language for covered services. Strong knowledge of CPT codes, medical terminology, and insurance verification processes (HMO, Commercial, MediCal, Medicare, PPO, POS, EPO, Capitation, Military, Workman Compensation). Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Strong time‑management and organizational abilities. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions, and to maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public. Capability to work assigned shifts, including overtime when approved. Compensation Hourly rate range: $26.00 – $34.00.
