RN Clinical - Cardiology - Full Time 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Responsibilities Assessment : Appropriately complete Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and with change of condition; complete patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily. Diagnosis : Interpret assessment information and formulate Nursing Diagnoses. Plan : Develop individualized Plans of Care with anticipated outcomes; review, revise, and update Plans of Care daily based on outcomes. Intervention : Administer medication and IV therapy at prescribed intervals. Perform patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals. Delegate tasks according to scope of practice and competency. Act as patient advocate and manage restraint use per policy, attempting alternative non‑restraint measures first. Ensure MD orders, assessments, and monitoring are complete and accurate. Complete Restraint Audit Form each shift. Documentation : Maintain complete and correct flow sheets and chart forms (Admission Assessment, Pain scale, Daily flow sheet, Restraint flow sheet, Diabetes flow sheet, Educational flow sheet, Kardex Care Plan, Risk Assessment, MAR, Equipment & Supplies, Inter‑facility transfer, Belonging Tracking). Ensure orders are transcribed and signed before shift end; complete 12h/24h chart checks. Education : Provide patient/family education as needed, including room/unit orientation and Plan of Care information. Identify knowledge deficits and use MICROMEDEX resources when appropriate. Transfer & Discharge : Collaborate with Case Manager and physician for discharge planning; ensure all paperwork and belongings are handled. Equipment : Utilize patient care equipment safely per manufacturer guidelines (IV pump, feeding pump, PCA pump, epidural pump, sequential compression device, wound VAC, heating pad/pump). Communication : Effectively communicate with all healthcare team members, patients, and families. Participate in shift‑to‑shift reports, physician rounds, MDP rounds, hand‑off reports, and facility emails. Organization : Manage time effectively; prioritize responsibilities; take meal breaks without overtime; complete shifts on time. Regulatory Compliance : Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals, Universal Protocol, medication reconciliation, clinical alarms, hazardous waste management, HIPAA, OSHA, and JCAHO requirements. Maintain safe practice: correct body mechanics, electrical safety, infection control, hand washing. Specialty Management (selected examples): Manage patients with THA, TKA, spinal surgery, cystic fibrosis isolation precautions, abdominal transplant isolation, hepatic encephalopathy skin care, complex critically ill patients, advanced therapeutic modalities (hemodynamic monitoring, CRRT, CVVHD, ventilator care, CVP lines, ventricular assist devices, lumbar drains). Manage dialysis treatments: initiate, perform, and terminate treatments per policy and dialysis standards; perform safety checks and machine maintenance. Psychiatric patient care: engage in therapeutic interactions, maintain milieu, assess safety, administer psychotropic medications, and report to mental health agencies. Behavioral Restraints : Use de‑escalation techniques; apply restraint or seclusion when necessary; monitor patients; obtain physician assessment within 1 hour. Notify manager of incidents; complete debriefing; follow policy for restraint use. Quality Measures : Accurately identify core measure criteria, complete documentation, participate in data collection and process improvements. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – required; prior BSN holders hired before 12/2019 are grandfathered. Registered Nurse – RN (California Board of Registered Nursing) license – required. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association – required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association – required. Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City) – required (must be obtained within 30 days if not already held). Minimum 1 year of experience in a non‑invasive Cardiology setting or in Coronary/Surgical Intensive Care immediately prior to application – preferred. Excellent communication skills; proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English. Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform duties such as whole blood collection and apheresis per policy. Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Comprehensive understanding of policies related to patient education, restraint, medication, and documentation.
