RN Clinical - 6 EW Med Surg Stepdown - Full Time 12 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Essential Duties Follows policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals. Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the Nursing Process. Appropriately completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift and with change of condition. Completes patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily. Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses. Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions and documents expected/projected patient outcomes. Reviews, revises, and updates Plans of Care daily based on evaluation of patient outcomes. Administers medication and IV therapy appropriately at prescribed intervals. Completes patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals. Delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency. Acts as patient advocate and manages restraint use per policy, attempting non‑restraint measures first. Ensures complete MD orders, MD assessment, and patient monitoring per policy. Completes Restraint Audit Form each shift and ensures documentation is complete and correct on all flow sheets and chart forms (Admission Assessment, Pain scale assessment, Daily flow sheet, Restraint flow sheet, Diabetes flow sheet, Educational flow sheet, Kardex Care Plan, Risk Assessment & Reassessment upon Fall, MAR Equipment & Supplies, Intra and Inter Facility Transfer Forms, Belonging Tracking Form). Completes 12h/24h chart checks and ensures orders are transcribed and signed off prior to shift end. Provides patient/family education, room/unit orientation, and uses and provides MICROMEDEX information to patients and families. Collaborates with Case Manager and/or physician regarding discharge planning, ensures all transfer paperwork is completed and belongings sent with patient. Utilizes patient care equipment appropriately and safely according to manufacturer guidelines (IV pump, Feeding pump, PCA pump, Epidural pump, Sequential compression device, Wound VAC, Heating pad/pump). Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including shift report, physician rounds, MDP rounds, hand‑off reports, facility e‑mail, and student/new employee/contract employee communication. Manages time effectively, organizes and prioritizes responsibilities, takes meal breaks without incurring overtime, and completes shift on time. Observes regulatory agency requirements related to patient safety goals, universal protocols, medication reconciliation, hazardous waste management, HIPAA, OSHA, and JCAHO continuous survey readiness. Manages the care of patients in various units, demonstrating specific skills for orthopedic, transplant, ICU, telemetry, dialysis, psychiatric, and behavioral restraint scenarios as described in the job description. Initiates, performs, and terminates dialysis treatments according to policy and standards of care, performs pre‑treatment safety checks, and maintains machine maintenance. Engages psychiatric patients in therapeutic interactions, maintains therapeutic milieu, and monitors patient safety (contraband assessment, treatment planning, locked doors, visitor logs). Demonstrates de‑escalation techniques, applies behavioral restraint/seclusion when appropriate, ensures physician assessment within 1 hour and every 8 hours, and completes debriefing with patient if appropriate. Accurately identifies patients that fit Core Measure criteria, completes Core Measure documentation, and participates in data collection and process improvements related to nurse sensitive quality indicators. Participates in professional hospital/nursing activities, relief charge nurse duties, nursing committees/councils, unit-based projects, research, and other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019. Graduated from an accredited school of Nursing. One year acute inpatient hospital experience as RN. Excellent communication skills; ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently. Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures, per administrative and clinical policies. Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Preferred Qualifications Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing). Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider certification. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire for those without a card. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) healthcare provider certification. Specialty certification preferred (e.g., anesthesia, critical care). Hourly rate range: $44.00 – $95.00. Professional Development and Bonus Points Preceptor experience (5 hours).
