ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTIONFounded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. (For more information, please visit: SUMMARYCPC Education and Career Services (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why an asset-based approach is used to maximize clients’ current strengths. Whether in schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. ECS programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.PROGRAM SUMMARYThe Learn and Earn Program provides work readiness skills training, college access support, leadership development and employment opportunities for youth and young adults. Youth are equipped with the experience and skills necessary to make a successful transition into adulthood and are empowered to become stronger advocates for themselves and their communities.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESHelp students cope with disabilities, behavior management, mental health issues and other potential barriers to their successProvide intervention for students with significant social, emotional and/or behavioral needsImplement individual behavior/growth plans and provide case management servicesRefers students and parents to appropriate support resources, monitor and accelerate the progress of the student and parents referredDocument participant case notes, track progress, and maintain program filesDevelop and facilitate interactive workshops related to career exploration, work readiness, higher education, financial literacy, leadership development, and other life skillsBuild a network of worksites for summer internship opportunitiesCollaborate with partner organizations to enhance programmingFulfill other duties as assigned by the Program DirectorQUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Bachelor’s in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Youth Studies or related field; Masters preferredAt least 2 years of leadership experience in the youth development field and/or previous experience working with High School aged-youthSkills and Competencies:Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for working with immigrant and low-income communities, and youth developmentExcellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; has knowledge of youth and immigrant issuesKnowledge of MS office applications and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and WebexBilingual in Spanish, Chinese and/or another language a plusCOMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW$30.22 - $32.98 per hour; 35 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends as neededCPC offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to generous paid time off (holiday, sick and vacation time), Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance Coverage, Commuter Benefits, and a 403(b) Retirement PlanHOW TO APPLYInterested individuals should submit their resume, along with a cover letter addressed to Julio Peña III, when applying online via CPC’s website: or selected online job boards.
