About this position First Response Rail Service, Inc. has been a privately owned company delivering rail asset management, transloading logistics, operational support, rail fleet inspections and minor repairs, and intermodal container repair services since 2004. We are currently looking for a Railcar Repair Technician with mechanical experience in Skippers, Virginia. Safety is our number one priority. The Railcar Repair Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, maintaining and modifying freight railcars in accordance with AAR, FRA, and customer requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Repair and replace railcar components including brake systems, safety appliances, draft gear, couplers, gates, doors, and other mechanical components. Utilize hand tools, power tools, hydraulic equipment, and measuring devices safely and effectively. Read and interpret repair procedures, work orders, and railcar diagrams. Identify defects and determine appropriate repair methods. Perform preventative maintenance and modifications on freight railcars as required. Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality and compliance with customer and regulatory standards. Maintain accurate repair records and complete required documentation. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Use basic hand and power tools. Show strong attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies or potential safety concerns. Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and production goals. Requirements Constantly use bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, and walking motions throughout the entire work shift. Lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment. Work independently with minimal supervision. Work outdoors year‑round and be exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dust, and noisy environments. Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Occasionally climb using various types of ladders and access elevated work areas. Preferred Qualifications Previous railcar repair, mechanical maintenance, industrial maintenance, construction, fabrication, or related experience. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to read and follow written instructions and repair procedures. Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
