Transportation Specialist

Safely transport participants to and from ESWG and to field trips in a professional and timely manner. Work collaboratively with the Adult Director to ensure all aspects of community integration are complete and meet requirements for all adult participants. Duties and Responsibilities Transportation Specialist Drive van safely at all times and adhere to all safety rules and traffic laws. Assist riders in and out of the van. Check wheelchair lock‑downs and seat belts prior to departure. Supervise participants on the van to ensure safety. Ensure that two adult staff members (including the driver) are on the van for all outings. While participants remain on the van, either the driver or the other staff member stays with participants at all times; at no time shall a participant be left alone on the van. Provide a pleasant environment while riding on the van. Ensure that behavior and interactions of participants and staff reflect ESWG values, policies, procedures, and practices. Provide a clean and comfortable atmosphere for participants. Greet parents, visitors, and volunteers to ensure a welcoming environment. Maintain transportation and outing records as required. Immediately report any concerns for participants or the van to a director. Assist with physical care for each participant, if needed. Advise the Transportation Coordinator, Adult Director, Program Director, or classroom teacher of any irregularities or changes observed in a participant’s appearance and/or behavior. Report any potential liability issues, accidents, or problems with staff, parents, or the public to the President/CEO or Program Director. Program Assist with implementation of participants’ ISP/POC, including daily living skills objectives. Work with the Adult Director, VP of Programs and Services, and Assessment Specialist to promote, plan, organize, and provide activities that enhance learning experiences. Plan and prepare a weekly schedule of activities according to ISP/POC goals and objectives, including community outings. Encourage adults to develop good nutritional habits. Provide personal care assistance and instruction (feeding, grooming, toileting). Supervise activities to ensure safety at all times following established safety standards. Advise Adult Director or VP of Programs and Services of any irregularities or changes observed in a participant’s appearance and/or behavior. Maintain all assigned documentation and participant records; track changes relevant to goals and objectives. Other (Vehicles and Program) Respect and preserve the dignity and personal safety of employees and persons served by ESWG. Maintain effective and cooperative work relations with others. Greets caregivers, visitors, and volunteers to ensure a welcoming environment. Advise the Adult Director and Transportation Supervisor on activities during community outings that affect program objectives, staff and relationships with parents and the public. Report any evidence of abuse and/or neglect immediately to the Adult Director or a member of the Administrative Team. Notify supervisor of supplies needed before depletion, maintenance required, or equipment needing repair. Adhere to all ESWG policies and licensing requirements and accreditation standards. Ensure that a first aid kit and fire extinguisher are available on the van and are in good working condition at all times; check each item once per month. Assist with maintenance, if needed. Attend staff meetings as required. Attend 10 hours of in‑service training to maintain and increase knowledge and skills in adult day services; possess current First Aid, CPR, fire safety, and CPI certification. Perform all other duties as assigned by the directors. Working Expectations Participants are supervised at all times; participants may never be left unattended. Staff will exercise professionalism in the presence of participants, visitors, and others. All activities and conversations will be appropriate and aligned with program goals. Staff are expected to receive a rating of 20 (meets expectation) or higher on performance reviews. A score under 20 will trigger a 1–3 month probation period with the possibility of termination. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Completed approved records and DMV check. Good interpersonal skills with children and adults. Finger‑print criminal background check clearance, including a DMV report. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret and carry out written or oral instructions.
