Must-Have: Graduate from an approved school of nursing with a certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse.


Description:
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing basic nursing duties.
Duties include execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, and assisting the physician during examinations and treatments.
The nurse performs technical/clinical procedures within the scope of their license.
Assist in the professional management of the medical department.
Apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents.
Attend sick call with the physician and prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined.
Prepare the examining room and equipment for procedures.
Operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by policies and procedures.
Control medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment and inventory them as required.
Perform emergency procedures as needed.
Keep work area and equipment clean, utilizing appropriate sanitation methods.
Document and report activities per established policies and procedures, including medical file documentation.
Assist in evaluating the provision of all medical services to prevent duplication of services.
Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.
Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by inmates/residents.
Securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment as needed.
Assist with maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar.
Review reports and records produced and properly process all documents in a timely manner.
Read, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures.
Respond to legal matters via corporate counsel and attend court hearings when necessary.
Conduct research of charts and review the status of inmates/residents with serious health problems.
Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public.
Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment.
Facilitate the accreditation of the medical program by providing required medical services.
Help prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies.
Take appropriate action in cases of unusual incidents and emergencies.
Escort inmates/residents or coordinate their movement for medical treatment.
Initiate and complete investigations as directed, including gathering information and interviewing as necessary.
Exercise independent judgment by determining when probable cause exists for disciplinary action.
Work in confined areas and conduct security checks.
Be aware of the potential for verbal abuse from inmates/residents in an antagonistic environment.
