Manager Clinical Education Registered Nurse

Karmanos Cancer Institute

McLaren operates Michigan’s largest network of cancer centers anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The system employs 20,000 full, part‑time and contracted staff and has more than 113,000 providers throughout Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Manager Clinical Education Registered Nurse Leads program planning, development, and implementation of training including patient education, nursing education and research initiatives. Manages daily operations such as curriculum development, staff performance appraisals, budget preparation, strategic planning, maintaining evidence‑based practices and regulatory compliance. Collaborates with clinical leaders to identify in‑service needs and empowers nurses at all levels to live the hospital mission. Serves as an expert in the field and a resource person to non‑nursing clinical areas. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of education services in accordance with all system and regulatory agency standards. Assists with ensuring quality, financial, and customer service objectives are met. Collaborates with clinical leaders to understand overall goals, plan interventions and develop effective communication strategies. Coordinates all training activities—on‑site courses, workshops and webinars—by reviewing personnel and resources, conducting planning meetings, introducing courses, selecting co‑facilitators, preparing announcements, coordinating materials and monitoring program progress to evaluate content and faculty. Plans program budgets by estimating costs, monitoring expenses, managing financial resources, analyzing trends and projecting future requirements. Reviews and analyzes evaluation results to inform future program planning. Assists with developing and administering capital and operating budgets to meet agreed‑upon departmental goals and objectives, and implements methods to monitor budget adherence and resolve variances. Provides technical support to subordinates for resolving complex problems and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and patient complaints. Ensures attainment of objectives through selection, development, training and evaluation of nursing education staff. Guarantees that all nursing education services and operations comply with local, state, federal and governmental regulations and laws. Maintains clinical and industry knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies. Performs other related duties as required and directed. Required Qualifications Current state license to practice as a registered nurse. Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Five years of experience in nursing education. Progressive leadership experience in nursing education. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing or related field. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification. Demonstrated success in developing strategic nursing education models. Experience incorporating technology into education and passion for teaching. Leadership experience in a magnet-designated academic medical center. Certification in Nursing Professional Development.
