This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and deliver highly available, secure, scalable and resilient applications that support millions of customers. This Staff Engineer will possess a deep expertise in Java-based distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, API development and modern software engineering practices. As a Staff Engineer and Technical Leader, you will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, Operations, and Engineering teams to build innovative solutions that improve healthcare experiences for our members, providers, and colleagues.Expectations for the Role:Leverage expertise to design and implement efficient and scalable solutions that meet business requirements and quality standardsContribute to solution design and architecture discussions, collaborating with architects and senior engineersProvide input on technical feasibility, performance optimization, and scalability considerations to ensure that the overall solution meets the desired objectivesParticipate in code reviews and ensures adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelinesCommunicate and coordinate with team members to ensure alignment, provide technical insights, and contribute to decision-making processesContribute to the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and tools to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code qualityParticipate in knowledge sharing activities, such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops, to foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the teamWork with other developers and team members to implement complex features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure the delivery of high-quality codeProvide guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve their technical skills and grow professionallyRequired Qualifications:7+ years of professional software development experience working with enterprise solution delivery in a large-scale distributed environment7+ years of hands-on Java application development experience, including experience with modern Java ecosystem frameworks5+ years of Java, Springboot development experience5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise cloud initiatives and solutions with cloud computing technologies5+ years of designing and developing modern microservices and cost-effective APIs3+ years of experience working on CI/CD Pipeline automation3+ years of experience working in an Agile-based development environmentPreferred Qualifications:Agentic AI / Generative AI experienceHealth and wellness domain experienceHands on experience working as full stack development when needed AngularJS, JavaScript, Oracle and other modern databases like NOSQLStrong understanding of Generative AI concepts and techniques, including but not limited to: Natural Language Processing (NLP), Text generation and summarization, Conversational AI and chatbotsHands-on experience with NestJS, Node.js, and TypeScript application development.Experience developing and managing Apollo GraphQL APIs, Federation, and API Gateway patterns.Ability to create and execute on roadmaps that consider both progress and innovation as well as the need to scale reliablyAbility to learn/work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Cloud/IT technology spaceAbility to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goalsEducation:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)Business Overview:Bring your heart to CVS Health Every one of us at CVS Health shares a single, clear purpose: Bringing our heart to every moment of your health. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
