Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Proof of driver's license required for eligibility. - Compliance with fingernail policy; artificial nails are prohibited. - Must pass an open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%. - Willingness to work every other weekend and a minimum of two holidays within the contract period. Description: The ICU unit has a total of 33 beds with an average daily census of 16. The nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:2 to 1:3 for adults. Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent care, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. Registered Nurses are responsible for titrating drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation. Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist on the floor as needed. Healthcare Support Technicians work three days per week. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow. Self-scheduling is allowed for core staff. Travelers may be added to the schedule. Floating may occur to other units but with comparable patient ratios. The unit uses a monitoring system and RNs must be able to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips. Holidays require coverage of at least two shifts that fall within the contract timeframe. RTO (Request Time Off) must be provided upfront with a maximum of seven days for the entire contract. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system in use is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position. This position is in an acute care setting.
