Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Ability to work every other weekend - Strong knowledge in critical care nursing - Capability to titrate drips Description: The ICU unit has an average of 33 beds with a daily census of 16 patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3 for adult patients. Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, overdoses/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent patients, pacemaker placements, strokes, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation medications. Nurse Aides are available based on census and may assist on the floor as needed. RNs are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment, including ventilators and high-flow oxygen systems. Self-scheduling is allowed for core staff, with travelers added in as needed. RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips. RNs typically float to the PCU or occasionally to MedSurg with similar patient ratios. There is a requirement of working a minimum of two holidays within the contract period. The required charting system is EPIC. A BSN is preferred for this position.
