Job Summary

Supervise employees in the operation, maintenance, and repair of power plant equipment by planning, organizing, and directing the activities required to ensure productivity, safety, and operational reliability. This position requires the ability and willingness to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and changes to scheduled hours or shifts as required to support plant operations and staffing needs.

Job Responsibilities

Manage Employees: Drive the performance of employees for both productivity and safety. Plan and conduct safety meetings to communicate safety requirements. Plan and conduct team meetings. Manage work assignments to minimize overtime while maintaining optimal productivity. Coach and counsel employees to achieve optimum performance. Consult with the others as necessary regarding disciplinary issues. Evaluate performance and conduct annual performance reviews with individual represented employees. Work with union stewards to discuss and resolve employee issues and conflicts. Lead safety and team meetings with direct reports to share information and promote safe work practices. Support diversity by actively seeking out and encouraging diversity in perspective and by establishing an environment of inclusion. Provide leadership and direction to operating personnel throughout the assigned shift and ensure effective communication and coordination between operating crews.

Manage Work: Manage and prioritize assigned work and operational activities. Direct and coordinate the safe and reliable operation of generating units and associated plant equipment during assigned shifts. Monitor plant conditions and operating parameters and provide direction to operating personnel to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Track and monitor job progress and plant operating conditions. Plan daily work activities. Communicate job assignments operational priorities, and changing plant conditions. Evaluate work situations to determine safety issues. Apply knowledge of chemical hazards and procedures for effective control and safety. Ensure compliance with safety procedures including the protective tag procedure, confined spaces, etc. Assist in troubleshooting system components as required. Evaluate the urgency of repairs or shutdown of equipment. Initiates action to repair as required by the circumstances. Apply knowledge of equipment design parameters and component interrelationships to decisions regarding maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational issues. Follow up on assignments to ensure quality, productivity, and safety of work. Work with Senior Supervisors to train staff in job skills. Apply knowledge of business unit and company policies to the administration and management of work. Apply knowledge of environmental policy to decisions regarding plant operations and maintenance. Use knowledge of technical resources to obtain information and guide work teams. Direct preparation of equipment for outage. Manage and administer external contractors to control costs and schedules. Manage plant evacuation and restoration as required. Write notifications for problem identification. Use systems software (e.g., Impact, Manager's Desktop, and Office Suite) to complete administrative tasks such as review of daily timesheets, completion of injury reports, etc. With required training, can serve as a Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Planner Scheduler, Outage Planner Scheduler, and/or Maintenance Scheduler.

Maintain Relationships

Establish and maintain good working relationships with represented employees, unions, and management staff. Promote effective communication and coordination between operating shifts and across Operations, Maintenance, and other plant work groups.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, HSED, or GED Five to 10 years' experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance or similar industry or five to 10 years' experience in supervision Good working knowledge of labor agreements and relationships is preferred Ability to communicate with and establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, union representatives and plant management

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of plant boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment from the perspectives of OEM Operating and Maintenance procedures and technical aspects of design Knowledge of chemical hazards and safe handling procedures Working knowledge of basic chemistry, principles of heat transfer, fluid flow, lubrication, metallurgy, electrical theory and distribution, and control systems, including field instrumentation Basic understanding of OSHA requirements Formal engineering or technical training beyond high school is preferable Ability and willingness to work a rotating shift schedule, including day shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and changes to scheduled hours or shifts based on operational and staffing needs

Pay Range

Minimum: $90,507.56 Maximum: $135,761.08 The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
