Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 18 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of two years of Labor & Delivery experience required License: Current RN license in the state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required - Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Must-Have: - Ability to effectively manage pain control in laboring patients - Competence in assessing fetal and maternal well-being - Skill in recognizing and managing perinatal emergencies - Strong communication skills for educating patients and families Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes managing emergency situations and circulating for cesarean sections. The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice. Essential functions include performing comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments that consider age and cultural differences. The nurse initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with healthcare team members. Demonstrating clinical judgment in perinatal emergencies is crucial, including managing situations like crash cesarean sections and shoulder dystocia. The nurse will educate patients and families throughout all stages of the perinatal and postpartum periods using appropriate methods for different age groups and cultural contexts. Documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluations of patient responses to treatments, is required. Safety and quality control checks must be performed consistently.
