Director of Accounting

SHR Talent is partnering with a client in the Nashville, TN area in its search for a Director of Accounting. The Director of Accounting will lead the accounting function for a growing real estate-focused organization, overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, project draw packages, and team leadership. This Director of Accounting role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely financial statements across multiple entities while supporting operational growth and investment activity. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Accounting & Finance, the Director of Accounting will manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, supervise accounting staff, and serve as a key partner to development, construction, and investment teams. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in real estate, development, or investment fund accounting and thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment. The Director of Accounting will play a critical role in strengthening internal controls, refining processes, and maintaining audit‑ready financial reporting while contributing to strategic decision‑making and long‑term scalability. Responsibilities: Oversee month‑end and quarter‑end close processes across multiple entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements Produce and review lender and investor draw packages, ensuring compliance with funding requirements Supervise and develop accounting team members, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance management Partner closely with development and operations teams to ensure proper cost capitalization, project accounting accuracy, and budget oversight Support preparation of consolidated financial reporting and executive‑level reporting packages Maintain strong internal controls, documentation standards, and audit readiness Assist in managing external audit and tax relationships Oversee certain tax‑related responsibilities, including coordination with tax advisors and review of filings Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, required Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, strongly preferred 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility Real estate, real estate development, construction, or investment fund accounting experience, strongly preferred Experience overseeing multi‑entity accounting structures Exposure to tax oversight and coordination with external tax providers Advanced Excel skills and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system experience Proven leadership ability with strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements Experience producing or reviewing draw packages and project‑based financial reporting This Director of Accounting opportunity in Nashville, TN offers the chance to lead a high‑impact accounting function within a growing real estate organization.
