Aircraft Structures TechnicianThe Structures Technician researches technical data and performs inspection, repair, and replacement of aircraft sheet metal structures in accordance with maintenance manuals and FAA regulations. This role focuses on structural components such as main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, and floor beams, and involves the full lifecycle of sheet metal work from layout and fabrication to installation and repair on commercial aircraft.ResponsibilitiesResearch technical data and follow applicable maintenance manuals and FAA regulations to inspect, repair, and replace aircraft sheet metal structures, including main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, and floor beams.Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine the sequence, methods, and materials required for fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts, equipment, and products using knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining processes, and layout techniques.Select the appropriate gauge and type of sheet metal, such as stainless steel, steel, or aluminum, and nonmetallic materials such as plastics or fiberglass, according to product specifications.Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns for products or parts.Perform maintenance work on company equipment as needed and maintain a clean and orderly shop environment.Remove components from aircraft and make accurate entries in the Component Removal Log, including completion of identification tags and repairable/parts routing tags.Work on commercial airframes larger than a CRJ 900, including Boeing and Airbus platforms as required.Support the B777 Cargo Conversion Program and perform structures work across the property as assigned.Essential Skills35+ years of experience in aircraft structures, sheet metal repair, and fabrication.Hands-on experience with aircraft airframes and structures, including commercial aircraft larger than a CRJ 900; Boeing and Airbus experience preferred.Proficiency in aircraft sheet metal repair, including riveting, drilling, and structural modifications.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications for aircraft structures.Strong skills in sheet metal layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation.Knowledge of working characteristics of metallic materials such as stainless steel, steel, and aluminum, as well as nonmetallic materials such as plastics and fiberglass.Ability to use layout tools including scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, and apply shop mathematics and layout techniques.Experience in an MRO or aircraft modification environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working on B777 aircraft or cargo conversion programs.Prior experience in a Class IV 14 CFR Part 145 repair station or similar regulated maintenance environment.Ownership of a basic set of tools suitable for aircraft structures and sheet metal work.Why Work Here?Employees benefit from a comprehensive total rewards package that supports their financial security, health, and overall well-being. Work is performed in an aircraft maintenance and modification environment, including a B777 Cargo Conversion Program and other areas across the property as required. The position requires extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, along with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, and occasional crawling and climbing. Team members must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted. The role involves regular use of equipment such as hydraulic press brakes, power shears, forming equipment, hand tools, lift equipment, stands, ladders, glass beading equipment, rivet guns, and drills. The environment may include high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, exposure to materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, work at unprotected heights, proximity to moving machinery, and aircraft fuel tank entry. To ensure safety, employees use personal protective equipment such as goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, and safety harnesses as required.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $39.12 - $46.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
