This position is based in Washington, DC. The selected candidate must reside in the Washington, DC area. Quarterly travel to the University of Notre Dame campus is required, along with additional travel as needed. This is a five-year limited term position. Emerging from the University’s Strategic Framework, ND-EI is a collaborative cross-campus initiative to establish Notre Dame as a premier university for research in ethics, offering superb training for future generations of ethicists and ethical leaders while directing its efforts toward guiding and strengthening public understanding of the most significant ethical issues of our time. The Institute for Ethics and the Common Good serves as the administrative flagship of the Ethics Initiative and as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, researchers, faith leaders, and practitioners engaging the most pressing ethical challenges shaping public life. Over the last five years, ECG has executed three major grants: One from IBM to advance technology ethics One from the John Templeton Foundation focused on love and social transformation One from Lilly Endowment Inc. to expand DELTA—a faith-based ethical framework guiding human flourishing in an AI-driven world The Institute seeks a Regional Network Director, DC (RNDDC) to design, lead, and sustain Notre Dame’s strategy for building a vibrant, policy-engaged network across Washington, DC, and key national corridors of influence. This role requires sophisticated strategic leadership to advance the DELTA framework within and across a wide range of contexts, including policy, regulatory, educational, ecclesial, and civic settings. The position moves beyond program implementation to shaping national conversations, informing discourse, and cultivating long-term institutional influence. The RNDDC will position Notre Dame as a trusted, non-partisan voice at the intersection of ethics, technology, faith, and public life. In doing so, the director will engage researchers, educators, journalists, policymakers, federal agencies, think tanks, advocacy organizations, and faith leaders in meaningful conversations about what it means to be human in the age of AI. Qualifications Education Qualifications: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s Experience: 5 to 6 years relevant experience Skill Qualifications: Strong understanding of public policy, governance, and the societal impact of technology, particularly artificial intelligence. Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience (5–7 years), preferably in public policy, law, government relations, technology, education or other relevant fields. Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Experience engaging policymakers, government officials, or policy institutions, with the ability to influence conversations and shape agendas. Significant experience in network-building and convening diverse stakeholders, particularly in policy or civic contexts. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills across ideological and professional differences. Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes environments with competing priorities. Strong independent work ethic with a collaborative mindset. Willingness to travel regularly and operate in a hybrid, high-flexibility work environment. This position is a 5 year limited term position.
