An LPN job description includes providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician, administering medications, taking vital signs, updating patient records, and educating patients on self-care. Core Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Provide basic nursing care, including assisting with bathing, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene.
- Monitoring and Recording: Monitor patient symptoms and progress, take vital signs, and accurately record medical histories and care activities.
- Medication and Treatments: Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including injections, and assist with wound care and procedures.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with patients and their families to provide education and support and to gather information about their conditions.
- Collaboration: Work as part of a healthcare team, supporting Registered Nurses and physicians in implementing and modifying care plans.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Education & Licensure: Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program and pass the NCLEX-PN exam to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
- Technical Proficiency: Be comfortable using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong communication, empathy, and compassion to build rapport with patients and their families.
- Attention to Detail: Maintain accuracy in record-keeping and ensure patients receive the correct medications and treatments at the right time.
- Critical Thinking: Use judgment and critical thinking skills to address patient needs and utilize resources effectively.
- Flexibility: Be adaptable to a fast-paced environment and work various shifts, including nights and weekends
