Job Title: Criminal Justice Adjunct Instructor Job Requisition ID: JR0000001293 Number of Openings: 1 Shift: Any (United States of America) Compensation Details: $1650.00 PER 3 CREDIT HOUR COURSE Job Description: Job Summary This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact by preparing students for successful careers in the criminal justice profession through hands-on, real-world training in a supportive learning environment. Under general supervision, the instructor will prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/occupational courses. The instructor will prepare standardized course syllabi using a provided template and assess students’ satisfactory progress based on established course grading requirements. This instructor will teach courses for criminal justice program while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. The instructor will provide instruction in the theory and practical applications of the criminal justice profession. Instruction Provides instruction in theory and practical applications of the discipline in accordance with academic state standards. Instructs courses in a classroom and lab environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry. Utilizes current technology in the classroom and lab environment. Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Grades all coursework in a timely manner. Provides student support and advising. Maintains office hours weekly. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area. Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues. Maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the teaching discipline. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the discipline. Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences. Curriculum/Student Learning Outcomes Prepares lesson plans for instruction. Works collaboratively with faculty within discipline to establish, measure, and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success and submits to appropriate program director. Participates in faculty calibration exercises and mentoring of faculty. Attends faculty meetings as scheduled. Supports Program Director/Division Deans/Associate Deans Requests and maintains supplies and equipment. Assists Program Director with budget preparation and requests. Actively supports program recruitment, student retention, and job placement efforts. Serves on department and collegiate committees and project assignments as necessary. Competencies Knowledge of best practices, rules, and testing needs as it relates to industry standards Knowledge of academic course standards Oral and written communication skills Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs Skill in accurate recordkeeping Organizational skills Skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public Decision making and problem-solving skills Work Environment This job operates in a professional classroom/lab/clinical/online environment. This role routinely uses standard office/classroom/lab equipment and technologies. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies, up to 25 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time instructional position. The work load is Monday-Friday with possible evenings or weekends based on needs. Travel Travel to other campuses and outside of the service delivery area is a possibility for meetings, trainings, and professional development. Required Education and Experience Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or Master’s degree in a related discipline (ex: Sociology, Criminology, Police Science, Political Science, Public Administration, Corrections, Doctor of Jurisprudence) with 18 hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certification Valid Driver’s License Preferred Qualifications Doctorate degree in Criminal Justice POST Instructor Certification Teaching experience at the postsecondary level Directly related field experience Online teaching experience Special Instructions to Applicants Unofficial Transcripts, resume, and proof of applicable certifications\licensure are required for consideration. Official transcripts and prior employment verification required within 30 days of hire for continuous employment. Selected candidate must successfully complete a background check to include employment references, criminal history, and verification of employment prior to hire. Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.
