About the Position

Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care PCU hospital experience License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS & ACLS Must-Have: - Minimum 1-year current acute care PCU hospital experience - BLS & ACLS certifications Description: This is a travel RN position in a progressive care unit. The unit has 30 beds and a staff of 65, including RNs and PCTs. Day shift staffing includes 1 Charge RN, 5-8 RNs, and 2-4 PCTs. Night shift staffing includes 1 Charge RN, 5-8 nurses, and 2-3 PCTs. The typical patient ratios are 1:4, often 1:5. Common equipment includes tele, transport monitors, suction, feeding pumps, trachs, bipap, cpap, heated high flow, chest tubes, foleys, pacer wires, IV pumps, and SCD pumps. The EMR system used is Meditech. The ideal candidate will have skills in: - Chest tube management and removal - Pacer wire removal - Performing 12-lead EKGs - O2 management, including BIPAP and heated high-flow - Managing drips such as heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, and ketamine Typical procedures performed in this unit include: - Post-catheterization care for right and left heart catheterizations, TAVRs, ablations, and pacemaker implantations - Management of TR band - Neurovascular checks - Post-thoracic surgery care including VATs/RATs, resections, lobectomies, and chest tube management - Pre-and post-care of open-heart surgical patients including CABGs, MVRs, AVRs, and aortic dissection repairs - Post-operative care for vascular surgeries The best personality fit for this role is a great team player with high energy.
