Title: Resource Nurse Work Unit: Office of Student Wellness Reports To: Lead Nurse Contract Length: 10 months 7 hours/day Pay Schedule: Ancillary Overtime Status: Exempt Hours: 1.0 FTE Union Status: NEA Licensure: Level 2 or 3 PED School Nurse License General Function: The Resource Nurse is responsible for ensuring uniformity of the nursing practice and nurse-delivered education across the district and increasing opportunities for health-related education and training among students and staff within the Santa Fe Public Schools. The Resource Nurse serves as a mentor to new district school nurses, student nurses and nurse aides. The Resource Nurse provides direct support to the District's Lead Nurse. • Licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in New Mexico
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• 2+ years of employment as a school nurse
• Professional experience training or educating peers and students
• Professional experience supervising nurses and assistive personnel Preferred Experience/Credentials:
• Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field
• Hold an active Nationally Certified School Nursing credential
• Certified CPR/BLS Instructor with the American Heart Association (AHA) or other accredited organization Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of nursing process and theory, standard nursing practices and procedures, immunization requirements, communicable disease prevention and control, HIPAA/ FERPA regulations, screening methods related to vision, hearing and dental health, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Knowledge of Santa Fe Public Schools District policies and procedures as they apply to health services, Special Education, 504 process and classroom-teaching methods
• Knowledge of state and federal guidelines that affect student access to health care
• Use of audiometer, otoscope, electronic sphygmomanometer, electronic thermometer, computerized record keeping, vision screening equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with students, families, staff, community agencies and health care providers

• Conduct annual skills competencies for RNs and NAs;
• Support delivery of Puberty! The Wonder Years Curriculum to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students;
• Coordinate Human Sexuality and Reproductive Health curriculum for 7th and 8th grade students with community partners;
• Train and support RNs on the use of technology (HealthOffice Anywhere, PowerSchool, the registration portal, MLSS, Google Platform, NMSIIS) to facilitate accurate reporting of nursing services;
• Provide orientation to all new nurses and nurse aides;
• Develop and deliver CEU-eligible trainings for RN staff;
• Train or be willing to obtain instructor certification to teach CPR, First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) for district staff;
• Act as a mentor and offer assistance to new district school nurses;
• Coordinate assistance to the local community professional health members. This includes student nurses and other health professionals;
• Develop and provide additional health-related training for students and nursing staff as needs are identified. This may include: vaping prevention for students and courses with CEUs for nursing staff;
• Substitute for school nurses as directed by Lead Nurse;
• Identify health problems through screening procedures, assessment and evaluation of the student;
• Make appropriate referrals based on data obtained from screening procedures;
• Conduct home visits when need arises;
• Maintain student health and immunization records and appropriate follow-up;
• Provide emergency care and first aid for all students and employees;
• Authorize exclusion and-readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases;
• Serve as a consultant and resource person to staff, parents and students in identifying resources
• Advise teachers and consults with parents on health matters, particularly regarding screening and accommodations for student health concerns;
• Serve on and or attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum;
• Serve on: Student Assistance Teams (SAT) Individual Education Program Teams (IEP) and 504 Teams when the student has a health condition that affects his/her/their ability to learn;
• Participate in training programs, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to ensure current, evidence based practice
• Serve as a consultant in matters of school health, safety, health education, and sanitary conditions;
• Assist principals and Lead Nurse in performance of any other health related assignments;
• Must be available to respond to emergencies at other Santa Fe Public Schools campuses;
• Assist with delegation to nurse aides;
• Develop, implement and monitor individual health care plans;
• Manage and oversee the implementation of the District medication policy and other school board policies pertinent to the nursing department;
• Review, administer, and document immunizations as deemed appropriate for student health;
• Must be available for immunization clinics;
• Attend all mandatory staff in-services;
• Participate in the ongoing operation of school-based health centers and facilitate as a leader, when appropriate;
• Assist in data collection relative to FTE and appropriate nursing staffing ratios;
• Seek opportunities to apply for outside funding for the school health service program at the district and site level;
• In collaboration with the Director of Student Wellness and Lead Nurse, participate in planning and organization of School Health Advisory Council meetings with representation from such groups as school administration, faculty, students, parents, community providers and other stakeholders;
• Develop and implement research projects to attain pertinent health information;
• Develop and implement programs based on assessed needs;
• Coordinate planning with interdisciplinary colleagues at the national, state, and local levels, in the coordinated school health service program;
