Lead Physician Assistant - Emergency Department - Manhattan

Position Summary Lead Physician Assistant – Emergency Department – Manhattan. In this role, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical care, coordinate and oversee patient services, and perform delegated clinical duties under a supervising physician. The position requires a New York State licensed PA, board‑certified, and accountable for medical staff privileges at NYU Langone Health. Job Responsibilities Supports the mission, philosophy, and objectives of the institution and clinical service. Educates the patient and family to facilitate healthy adjustment to new health patterns. Evaluates treatment and health‑care plans for effectiveness and modifies them per clinical standards. Performs delegated clinical duties effectively and efficiently. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and bylaws. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, therapy services, and home health services per protocol. Prescribes in‑patient and discharge medications per NewYorkState law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Demonstrates physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity required for responsibilities. Facilitates group processes and collaborates in an interdisciplinary team. Shows excellent interpersonal, communication, creative problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills. Gathers prior experience as a physician assistant or fellowship experience preferred. Has at least two years of clinical rotation in various specialties. Coordinates implementation of clinical research studies or trials, including screening, enrollment, and data collection. Monitors cost‑effectiveness and efficiency of the position relative to service indicators. Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols. Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines on clinical studies. Uses evidence‑based literature to advise and support practice changes. Participates in quality and performance improvement through patient outcome monitoring. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and health professionals. Maintains PA board certification and annual CME requirements. Maintains current expertise in the area of practice. Promotes professional growth and development in the clinical role. Functions as a respectful member of the health‑care team. Engages in professional practice standards activities. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s core values and incorporates them into responsibilities. Ensures efficient patient throughput during admission and discharge. Facilitates continuity of care across services and facilities. Provides consultation on therapeutic regimens to nursing staff. Communicates timely and appropriately with families, house staff, and ancillary services. Contributes to development and revision of interdisciplinary standards and education materials. Collaborates with the attending physician to develop therapeutic care plans for patient groups. Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols. Additional Position Specific Responsibilities Physician assistants at the HelenL.&MartinS.Kimmel Hyperbaric and Advanced Wound Healing Center will have additional duties as outlined in the Physician Assistant policy for the Hyperbaric Center. Minimum Qualifications Physician Assistant Bachelor's Degree (BA‑PA). Current NewYorkState Physician Assistant License. NCCPA Board Certification. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Heart Association or American Academy of Pediatrics. Membership in pertinent professional organizations. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
