Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant Svc Area II-WH. In this role, under the supervision of an assigned Attending Physician, you will perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and render medical services to provide comprehensive patient care at NYU Langone Woodhull. Job Responsibilities Elicit detailed and accurate history and perform appropriate physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients. Performs other duties as assigned. Perform BLS and ACLS procedures in life-threatening situations when a Physician is unavailable and with Physician when appropriate. Assist the supervisor Physician and backup Physicians on procedures within the scope of the supervising physician. Instruct and counsel patients and their families about preventative care, medical problems, prescribed treatments and drugs, normal growth and development, family planning, situational adjustment reactions, and other related topics. Participate in team conferences, lectures and grand rounds for the service. Participate in daily rounds to observe and record progress, update and summarize charts, write orders and progress notes, and notify the Physician of changes in the patient\'s condition when appropriate. Initiate consultations and refer patients for special testing according to hospital protocol. Perform specific procedures as trained and supervised, including drawing blood, urinalysis, Pap smears, culture smears, gram stains, oxygen administration, incisions and drainage, wound care and debridement, intubation, gastric analysis, lumbar punctures, routine wound suturing, skin biopsies, arterial lines and blood gas determinations, casting or traction setup, and initiating IV solutions and medications. Order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs, and other diagnostic procedures and write prescriptions according to service protocols and state regulations.
